Ingrown Toenail Season.

Tis the season to have ingrown nails....fa la la la laaa

We have recently noticed a huge influx of ingrown and painful toenails due to the cold weather - meaning we wear closed in shoes. Our clinics are equiped for surgery and our surgical team consisting of myself and Yani have been busy bees performing many surgeries each week. Although we love surgery, we would like to give everyone a few tips on how to prevent ingrown toenails!

- Cut toenails straight across, and file any sharp edges

- Don't cut your toenails too short

- If you are prone to ingrown toenails, you may need to visit a podiatrist for regular care or advice

- Ensure your shoes are not too tight

- If you think you have an ingrown toenail, visit your podiatist immediately (as the earlier we see them the easier it is for us to treat them)

Still talking about ingrown nails however, we had a very serious case the other day where the full nail was removed, the before and after photos are below (warning is a very nasty photo). In this case, within 2 weeks of the surgery the infection had completely resolved :)

Our clinic has a very high success rate for ingrown toenail surgeries, but if your ingrown toenail occurs again we will perform any treatment required for free! If you would like to make a booking at one of our podiatry clinics located in Waiuku, Pukekohe, Drury, Mangere or Royal Oak, please phone us on 0800 111 224.
