ACC and ingrown toenails

Some patients with ingrown toenails are due to genetics, however approximately half of the ingrown nails we see are covered by ACC. This is because of any of the combination of factors

- Someone jumped/stood on the persons toe

- Incorrect cutting of toenails leaving a spike down the side

- The toenail falling off and not growing back correctly

Cases where ingrown toenails are not covered by ACC are instances like

- A family history of ingrown nails with no cause of injury

- Wearing shoes that were too small over a long period of time

- Where the injury was more than a year old

If you are wondering if your toe is covered by ACC, please feel free to contact our clinic on 0800 111 224 to speak with one of our podiatrists.
